Packing and despatching

In order to deliver our fruit and vegetables in the best quality and efficiently from the orchard, greenhouse or field to your fridge, the role of packaging must not be underestimated. With an eye to making the sector more sustainable, we constantly ask ourselves the crucial question: 'Is this packaging really necessary?'

Types of packaging and their functions

Because they perform many important functions, we use various types of packaging.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

As Responsibly Fresh growers and producers' cooperatives, we are committed to waste prevention in terms of packaging. So we have set up a central waste prevention plan for our sector. We do our utmost to limit the amount of packaging material, choosing reusable packaging and favouring packaging material that is recycled. When it comes to waste processing and recycling, we have teamed up with VAL-I-PAC and Fost Plus. This has already started paying dividends for all types of packaging:

Consumer packaging

Outer packaging

Transport packaging

Prospects for the future

We are constantly thinking about the packaging issue, and we are striving to optimise it on a permanent basis. That is why we are looking at whether and how producers of packaging material can further reduce the weight and size of packaging without sacrificing quality and sustainability. Looking to the future, we will be working more with collapsible crates: they take up far less space when they are brought back empty.

Responsibly Fresh expresses our conviction that making more economical use of packaging material at every stage in the value chain allows for better-quality protection and presentation of products, which is better value for all stakeholders and cleaner for the environment.
