How do we tackle this?

Thanks to average rainfall of about 800 litres per square metre per year, our outdoor crops need hardly any extra watering. Fruit and vegetables that are grown under glass do need more. But while our glasshouses are the biggest consumers of water in the whole agricultural sector, they are also top of the class from the environmental point of view: As much as 61% of the water they need comes from rainwater harvested via the greenhouses and stored in tanks or ponds with liners! And wherever possible, we reuse water by setting up closed systems.
Other sources of water that we use are ground and surface water. We use hardly any drinking water, other than for washing and rinsing our products: this is for the sake of food safety
